Post # missing a few
so my ideas progressed along a bit. concerning the paper planes. im now to use fishing rods. fishing rods with paper fish attached that people can pass around to each other and write messages to one another, the messages can then be posted on a blog where the interaction can continue…. toying quite seriously (:P) with the idea of using rice apaper and edible ink. the blog may not come to fruition in that case, unless i introduce cameras. but then it get expensive…
idea for main piece: a room/or space with 3 walls, (the fourth wall removed-so art becomes life and life becomes art.)
however they (the participants, viewers and gallery goers) all sit on the floor. they may where overalls as it could get messy. and… pass the parcel. in the parcel is an object and a note. the idea is that they take the object and some instruction, poems, collection of words and use it an inspirational/inspired way (in a performance type sense) and attach to the walls. the end result is a group created installation based on their collaboration and guided by their individuality.
so im now thinking about this installation is formed. maybe something like this, where the participants in effect unravel a ball of wool by undoing each layer??
or something like this

New Project-Post 1
IDEA ONE:
this is my initial idea as penned down to Amy.
“other idea involving paper planes… The idea was inspired by pigeons! When I went out for coffee the other day, I was sitting outside and noticed how the pigeons randomly flew from table to table. I thought in this way they are connecting strangers to one another. At first I thought well what about attaching a message to the pigeon to be taken to each person and for each person to add to the message. I thought this might be bit unfair on the pigeon but its still something to explore… Then I thought about mechanic pigeons (!!) doing the same thing and then (!!) I thought about paper planes! I thought maybe of using them in an event (this event would be great for trying it). It would be a similar concept to the pigeons. People would add messages to the planes as they fly around. I considered getting people to add their names and then also getting them to register and after the event I will add their names and their comments to a website/blog so participants can go back and see who commented on their comments and what they said and then from there the blog can be used as a kind of social networking site.”
PROBLEM: find a way for people to interact with each other and share information about themselves using the pigeon story as inspiration.

about the loner
“Loneliness is like hunger and thirst—a signal to help your genes survive,” Cacioppo says. “When you’re lonely, there’s a stress response in your body, and it’s not healthy to sustain that for a long time.”

Social animals in isolation
A really interesting read. I picked up mainly on the bits about the monkeys who were brought up in isolation (not intentionally to see what this would do to them but just because the scientist was unaware they needed social interaction growing up.) the monkeys showed ‘autistic type’ characteristics in social situations and were even found to be self-mutilating. The article then talks about people who have been kept in isolation. The people start to completely lose their minds and become very defensive against the people keeping them there. (This said to be a self-preservation tactic) However many became catatonic and some committed suicide. So it can certainly be argued that social interaction is certainly necessary for survival and that emotions (if they are considered as tools for social regulation) are an aid to this. However it would seem that social interaction is paramount for regulating those emotions.
so it could be set up like this: social interaction=goodemotion. good emotion=improved social interaction and so on. whereas: no social interaction/lack of=bad emotions for individual. bad emotions for individual(on an extreme level)=bad social interaction.
obviously not everyone experiences isolation but it is interesting to see that social interaction maintains mental state when looking at it in the case of isolation. the next question is does improved social interaction=improved/good emotions, so, looking at it from the flip side of isolation.

I found this article really interesting, in particular these points:
“The outward expression of an emotion gives other people clues to what someone is experiencing and helps to regulate social interactions.” -do social animals experience emotion more than others?
and
“Some scientists also believe that emotions serve as motivation to behave in specific ways.”Read more: Emotions – body, causes, What Are Emotions?, What Are The Sources of Emotions?, Why Do We Have Emotions? http://www.humanillnesses.com/Behavioral-Health-Br-Fe/Emotions.html#ixzz0mtoAIP69
so do emotions serve to help humans/animals function in a social context? because we are social nature do these emotions help us survive?
